Kimberly Mayfield is an Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Education at Holy Names University. She received her doctorate in Learning and Instruction from the University of San Francisco. Her research interests and activism include creating a permanent diverse teaching force, and the disproportionate over-representation of African American males in special education. From 2006-2011, Dr. Mayfield served as a co-convener of the Effective Teachers for Oakland community task force, which created the framework for the Teach Tomorrow in Oakland Program. She has been recognized by the Oakland/Bay Area chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women for working to improve education in Oakland and has served as the president of the Oakland/Berkeley chapter of Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA). Presently she is an education policy adviser for BWOPA and the Board chair for Oakaland Natives Give Back ( ONGB).
